Five decisions facing the next council

Should Toronto permit substantially more housing as-of-right in every ward, including areas currently dominated by detached and semi-detached homes?

  • Daniel Trayes    Yes

    Yes but with proper planning. Im not saying demolish all single family homes. Im saying public consultation and proper planning.

When a person living in a park has been offered an available indoor space that meets their accessibility, safety and household needs, should the city require them to leave the encampment?

  • Daniel Trayes    Yes

    I 100% believe that if you are offered a home and you choose to stay in a park there's far much more needing to be discussed. I have the lived experience 2nd to none on this issue to help both the homeless folks as well as my future colleagues.

Should Toronto introduce road-pricing measures, such as congestion charges or tolls, if the revenue is dedicated to transportation improvements?

    I would have to dig a little deeper and get specifics. I am not a driver at all so on this issue I will get back to you.

Should Toronto raise additional local revenue to address its infrastructure repair backlog rather than defer maintenance while seeking funding from other governments?

  • Daniel Trayes    Yes

    We need to do it all. We need all hands on deck to ensure we manage the $ responsibly while providing the needs of everyone involved.

Should Toronto publish project-level budgets, schedules and performance updates for all major capital projects?

  • Daniel Trayes    Yes

    I would say yes and no on this one. I believe deals should be made 100% transparent but direct details of the build etc might serve as a security risk.

Public safety and public space

Which approach should receive the greatest additional investment to improve public safety?

  • Daniel Trayes    Mental-health response, addiction treatment and youth intervention

    The fact is they need to do all 3. So many issues have arisen with youth violence and retail thefts across the whole city. Time to say enough. Thats why I applaud those in Lawrence Heights who are mentoring the youth to a better future.

Over the next council term, the Toronto Police Service budget should:

    Here is another question that can be answered multiple ways. Proper public consultation & a willingness of council and the police board to work together is key.

How should Toronto govern automated licence-plate readers and similar surveillance technology used on public streets?

  • Daniel Trayes    Establish citywide limits on access, retention, auditing and data sharing

    I don't know enough on this issue to comment. I will read up on it and provide details at a later date.

Transit and transportation

What should receive the greatest share of the next available transit funding?

  • Daniel Trayes    New rapid-transit lines and extensions

    Certain areas are underserved. We simply need to continue what we started on finch and eglinton.

When there is not enough street space for every use, which should generally receive priority?

  • Daniel Trayes    Transit, walking and cycling

    I would choose all 3 answers if we could. All 3 are key factors to such a situation as this.

Housing and growth

If Toronto could make one major housing intervention this term, which should receive the greatest emphasis?

  • Daniel Trayes    Build or finance substantially more affordable and supportive housing

What should be Toronto's primary role in delivering affordable and supportive housing?

  • Daniel Trayes    Supply land, funding and incentives to non-profit and private providers

    More needs to be done.

Where should Toronto permit the greatest increase in housing density?

  • Daniel Trayes    Permit more apartments and multiplexes in nearly every neighbourhood

    As long as there's proper public consultation and studies etc

Which change would you implement to reduce the cost of building housing in Toronto?

  • Daniel Trayes    Expand as-of-right zoning and automate routine permits

    The first 2 answers work. Decreasing parking is not usually a good starting point for potential owners or renters.

What is the most important change Toronto should make to reduce capital-project delays and cost overruns?

  • Daniel Trayes    Strengthen professional project management, procurement and contracting

  • Daniel Trayes    Expand permanent city staff and internal operational capacity

    Safety is also a concern here in Ward8. But if we can update and maintain on all things from infrastructure to transit to homelessness then we will be on the right path.

  • Daniel Trayes    Safer, cleaner and better-maintained streets and public spaces

    We need all of the above. It is all about community building TOGETHER😃
